Your Young Labour National Committee

The Young Labour National Committee is the body that brings together all sections of the youth movement.

The Committee’s job is to help co-ordinate campaigning activity of young members, facilitate with events and advise the organisation on matters affecting young people.

Most elected members of Young Labour National Committee serve two year terms and committee meetings are held on average every three months.

You can find out what your committee members have been up to by reading their latest reports here

Caroline Hill

Chair of Young Labour

I am a primary school teacher in north London.

I moved to London in 2010 to attend UCL, where I was chair of the Labour club. I am a proud trade unionist, as a member of the NUT and Unite. I represented trade unions on the Young Labour national committee for three years before being elected Chair in 2016.

My main interests are in education and internationalism. I have taught in France, Switzerland and Argentina and speak French and Spanish fluently.

I want to create a Young Labour that campaigns, educates and empowers our membership.

National Executive Committee (NEC) Youth Representative

I'm a 20 year student from Liverpool, currently studying Psychology at Liverpool University.

I got involved with Young Labour through my local group, Wirral Young Labour, when I was 15 and have been a member for 5 years now.

I'm on the Labour Party’s National Policy Forum representing North West Young Labour, and I'm proud and active member of CWU, my trade union.

I want to use my platform at the top table of the NEC to ensure we make the Labour Party easier for young members to understand and get involved with. I’m determined to make sure Young Labour works together to engage young people in politics and campaigns for a Labour government.

Lyndsay Clelland

Vice Chair Policy

I joined the Labour Party in 2014, after seeing the hard work my Labour MP put into my community. After the devastating defeat in Scotland last year, I am more determined than ever. We need a strong, socialist Labour government, and young people are at the heart of this movement. As Vice-Chair Policy, I'll work to make sure that we get a say in the manifesto, that Young Labour have regular policy discussions, and that the policies we pass at conference are actioned on and campaigned for - not just put on a shelf once they've been discussed. Policy must come from all members, not just those at the top - if there is an issue you want raised you can contact me at and I'll make sure your voice is heard.

I am keen to encourage more young women to get involved at all levels in the party and to build Young Labour as a hotbed of intersectional socialist feminist activism. You can find out about activities and discuss issues with other Young Labour women via @YoungLabWomen on Twitter, or 'like' the page Young Labour Women on Facebook.

Sabrina Huck

Assistant Secretary & London Representative

I am the London Representative & Assistant Secretary on the Young Labour National Committee. I got involved in the Labour Party during the European Parliament election campaign 2014, shortly after moving to the UK from Germany, where I grew up.

I was previously a member of the Young European Movement London executive committee, a Student Union Chair in Germany and have also studied and worked in Finland.

My main aim on the YL National committee is to help young members to have a greater say in shaping Labour Party policy, prioritise issue-based campaigning and empower members through political education. I also want to strengthen our links with European sister parties and get more Young Labour members to take part in Young European Socialist events and other exchange programmes.

My main policy interests are the European Union and immigration.

I currently work full time for a national youth homeless charity and I am a former National Chair of Young UNISON. I organise UNISON members working in the Third Sector and lead on organising young UNISON members in the North East.  At the University of Salford I chaired my Labour Students club and spent two years on the Labour Students National Committee.

I would like to see young trade unionists taking a much more active role in the Labour Party, getting involved in campaigns, making policy and standing as candidates. I would also like to see more young Labour members joining trade unions.

I joined the Labour Party in 2007. Originally from Birkenhead, I grew up in Salford where I am (amongst other things) the Secretary of Salford TUC. I am a proud member of Unite the Union and currently working for Unite's Political Department. Prior to this I was Chair of Unite Young Members.

I am Company Secretary of Salford Credit Union which is supported by the local Labour council and Unite. In my spare time I enjoy reading, listening to music, campaigning for a Labour government, and going out with friends.

I am from the Kings Lynn area of Norfolk and am currently a youth worker for a charity organisation in Norwich and surrounding areas while completing my law degree.

I have been involved in politics on a variety of levels since 2012, being elected to youth parliament in my constituency and in 2015 I was elected women's officer for my CLP after running as a borough councillor candidate. I have also previously campaigned for better transport for young people, improved mental health services and an introduction of compulsory life skills and political education.

I aim to support members to become active in their communities by developing stronger links with young members in rural areas, and calling for drastic improvement in accessibility support offered to young members in attending events, training and meetings.

Young Labour needs to be a more democratic, representative and inclusive organisation and I hope to work towards achieving this over my two years of office.

I am from County Durham and have been a Young Labour and Labour Students activists since I joined the party in 2007.

As the Chair of County Durham Young Labour and former Youth Representative on the Labour North Regional Board I have worked with young members and students from across the region to organise and campaign.

I currently sit on the GMB National Executive (CEC) and Chair the GMB Northern Young Members Network.

My priorities for Young Labour are to make it more open to people from a working class background and to help promote, particularly working class women, within the wider Labour Movement.

Lauren Gilmour

 Scotland Representative

I’m Lauren and I live in Paisley (just outside Glasgow!) with a geriatric dog called Lady. I’m a community development worker, working in one of the most deprived communities in Scotland where I see, daily, the problems of deindustrialisation and the impact Tory and SNP governments are having on our most vulnerable and least well off.

I joined the Labour Party in 2011 because I believed my voice wasn’t loud enough on it’s own. I’m a socialist, a trade unionist and a feminist. When I’m not at work or doing something related to the Labour Party, I like scrapbooking and making cards for my family and friends, walking my dog, reading and arguing with people on twitter. During the next two years, I want to increase the visibility of Scotland on the Young Labour National Committee, improving the relationship between Scottish Young Labour and Young Labour and fighting for increased autonomy – and maybe even having a Young Labour National Committee meeting in Scotland!

Alba Kapoor

South East Representative

I have been a member of the labour party since I was 15 and have been involved in campaigning for the Labour Party since 2010.

I have just graduated from Oxford University, where I was involved in campaigning as BME representative for the university's Student Union.

As your member for the South East I hope to ensure that your voice is heard in Young Labour, so please do not hesitate to contact me.

Jake Bishop-Ponte

South West Representative

I am from an ex-mining village in North East Somerset and am currently studying my a-levels in Bristol along side being a CLP Youth Officer and my political activism within the party.

Over the course of my term in office I would like to try and engage more young members in the South West and increase young members attendance at CLP meetings. I am aware of many issues that young people face when wishing to engage in party activities in the west - especially when traveling around rural areas. I also believe that a lot needs to be done in terms of making CLP meetings more engaging for young members and would be interested in working with youth officers from across the South West in order to make this happen.

I joined the Labour Party shortly after arriving at university, I am a proud socialist and trade unionist and member of Unite. I currently work in the constituency office of my local MP.

I am a member of Labour’s National policy Forum and Chair of Swansea Young Labour. I am also active within my local party being the Vice Chair and Campaign Co-ordinator of my branch, as well as being the youth officer of the CLP.

My main priorities are making sure that Wales and its members are not overlooked and increasing the transparency and democracy within Young Labour.

Rida Vaquas

West Midlands Representative

Hi! I'm Rida, your Young Labour West Midlands Representative! I've been involved since I was 14 and was previously Young Labour Under 19s Officer. My priorities over this term will be building local groups and campaigning across the region.
