Young Labour National Committee

Young Labour National Committee is the body that brings together all sections of the youth movement.

Young Labour National Committee’s job is to help co-ordinate campaigning activity of young members, facilitate with events and advise the organisation on matters affecting young people.

Most elected members of Young Labour National Committee serve two year terms and committee meetings are held on average every three months. If you want to get in touch with your representatives please get in touch.

Susan Nash – National Chair & Trade Union Representative
Susan Nash

Susan Nash is the National Chair of Young Labour. She was elected to lead Young Labour; supporting young members to get involved in events, campaigns and within the wider party. Susan is elected to provide leadership to young members and represent their views at a national level within the party and beyond.

Susan is also one of the trade union reps on the Young Labour national committee. Before being elected as Chair Susan was a Vice President in the National Union of Students.

Callum Munro - National Executive Committee Representative
Callum MunroeCallum is the representative for young members, students and young trade unionists on the Labour Party National Executive Committee. He represents all these groups at the highest level of the party and ensure that their voice is heard when it comes to important party and policy decisions.

Currently a student studying history and politics, Callum is originally from Glasgow. Being involved in Scottish Young Labour showed him how a great youth movement can function and Callum is keen to work with Susan and the rest of the national committee to help make Young Labour a movement we can be proud of.

Bex Bailey – Vice Chair Campaigns & East Midlands Rep
bex baileyBex is from Nottinghamshire and is the East Midlands Rep on the Young Labour National Committee and the Vice Chair of Young Labour with the campaigns remit.  She is also the East Midlands CLP Youth Rep on the National Policy Forum.

Bex studies history and politics at university and is involved with Labour Students as well as being members of the Co-operative Party, the Fabian Society and Progress.

Bex is keen to encourage more young people to join the Party, and to get our current members more involved, through the creation of Young Labour groups.  She also wants to get more young people out campaigning and help to organise social events.

Georgia Elliott – Vice Chair Policy & Trade Union Representative

Georgia Georgia is the Vice Chair Policy. She was elected from amongst the eleven NPF Youth Representatives to take a lead on Young Labour policy development and representing the interests of Young Labour and young members within the policy making processes of our party.

Originally from Sunderland, she now lives and works in Yorkshire. She previously attended Newcastle College where she set up the Labour Club and first became involved in Young Labour. She is also one of the Trade Union Representatives on the committee

 

 

Simon Darvill – Assistant Secretary & Welsh Rep
Simon DarvillSimon is the Assistant Secretary and Welsh Rep on the Young Labour National Committee. His big priorities are improving communication between Young Labour and the membership, the Young Labour Website and ensuring a great campaign from Young Labour members in May’s Welsh Assembly Elections.

Simon joined the Labour Party in 2003 and is a member ofThe Co-Operative Party, The Fabian Society, The Christian Socialist Movement and Unite the Union. Simon was the Youth Officer in his home constituency of Upminster in the East of London and then went to University in Swansea where he was Chair of his Labour Club, Vice Chair of Welsh Labour students and Swansea West Constituency Party Secretary.

Simon has worked on many elections including being the Campaign Co-ordinator in Swansea West during the 2010 elections and standing for Council in the London Borough of Havering during the 2010 London Council elections.


Liberation Representatives

Young Labour national committee has four places reserved for representatives from the liberation campaigns. These representatives lead their respective caucuses, campaign on issues of discrimination and support under-represented groups get involved in Young Labour and the wider party.

Michaela Neild – Women’s Officer 
MN Michaela Neild is Young Labour Women’s Officer. She stood for the position because despite the Labour Party being the party that has done the most to further women's rights and representation, there is still more work to be done.

She grew up in Leigh and moved to Cardiff for University. She joined the Labour Party at 17 and was the Chair of Cardiff Labour Club at University.

Having been an elected officer at Cardiff Students’ Union for a year,  she then went on to serve as NUS Wales Deputy President. Since June 2011 she now works and lives in London.

 

 

 Jyoti Bhojani - BAME Officer
JyotiJyoti is National Young Labour Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Officer and Anti Racism Officer for London Young Labour.   Jyoti is also BAME Officer for her CLP.

Having grown up in one of the most diverse parts of London, she has seen multiculturalism at its best and knows that we are stronger when we are united.  Since graduating in Politics from the University of East Anglia two years ago, Jyoti has been working in the BAME Sector which has given her a desire to ensure that the BAME voice is heard at all levels of the decision making process.  


Mark Cooper – Disability Officer
Mark CooperMark has been active in the party since 2005 and has been a branch chair, youth and student officer and was the PPC is Orkney and Shetland at the last General Election.

Mark is a also a Co-op party member and founded the barred campaign, which improved disabled access to pubs http://www.capability-scotland.org.uk/barredaward.aspx

Mark wants to develop a disability manifesto and representation on the NPF for disabled people. He feels this is important so that young disabled people know what the party is thinking on issues which affect them. He also wants to develop a disability campaigning factsheet so that young disabled members can join in campaign days without having to think about their disability.


Daryn McCombe – Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Officer
Daryn McCombeDaryn lives in Central London and works in the Public Sector. He is National Treasurer of LGBT Labour as well as the Youth Rep on the London Regional Board. He is also involved in his local CLP and Branch Chair for his Ward in Oval. Previously Daryn was Secretary of London Young Labour, and President of King's College London Student Union.

He is keen that Young Labour becomes an open, inclusive, and active organisation if you have any questions or just want to get more involved don’t hesitate to drop me a line.


Regional Representatives

Young Labour national committee has eleven regional representatives whose role is to support young members get involved in their region, assist existing Young Labour groups, and help members create new groups, and help members feed into the national committee and wider party.

Alice Taylor – Eastern Rep
Alice2Alice Taylor got involved in campaigning in the 2010 general and local elections in Stevenage.

Alice has a young child which means that she is passionate about issues of young people. She wants to make the Labour Party more accessible for young people so that in the future Young Labour can have as much of a say as everyone else. Alice was involved currently in campaigning in the local elections in Stevenage in 2011.

Alice works in a local pub in Stevenage where she says politics gets mentioned on a regular basis and she would like to gain new young members from people just who don't think politics is accessible to them. In her new role she is looking forward to meeting as many young people across her region as she can.

Emma O'Dwyer- West Midlands Rep

EmodOriginally from London Emma moved to Birmingham to study at the University of Birmingham in 2008.

She has been a member of the party for a number of years and was an extremely active member of Birmingham Labour Club and  Birmingham Guild of Students during this time.

Emma is a keen campaigner and is currently working to start  several new Young Labour groups across her region. Emma wants to see an active, campaigning Young Labour proving what an asset our young members really are to the Party.

 

 


Bryony Victoria King - Yorkshire Rep
BryonyBryony lives in Leeds where she currently works for a Labour Member of Parliament and is the Fundraising Officer for Leeds West CLP, as well as Vice Chair and Political Education Officer for her branch and Chair of the newly formed Leeds Fabian Society. 

She holds a BA in History & Politics and is also a member of the Co-operative Party and the Fabian Society.
Bryony would like to ensure that all Young Labour members in the region are welcomed into and are able to be fully involved in the Labour Party and movement and will be working towards this with others during her time on the Young Labour National Committee.


Christine Quigley – London Rep
CQ Christine is the Young Labour London Representative. She is the current Chair and former Campaigns Officer of London Young Labour, one of the largest regional Young Labour groups in the UK.

She is also Equalities Officer for the Young Fabians, Vice-Chair (Campaigns) for the Labour Party Irish Society and Political Education Officer of Westminster North CLP. Originally from Dublin, she works for a national charity and recently completed a part-time Masters from Birkbeck, University of London.

 


Mary Roberts – South East Rep
Mary RobertsMary was born in Oxford and has lived the majority of my life in the marginal Labour constituency, Oxford East. She currently studies Sociology at Edinburgh University but spends a lot of her time travelling for national Labour events, and makes it to the South-East whenever possible.

Having got involved in Labour at the most difficult of times - shortly before the 2010 general election she has since been elected Chair of Scottish Labour students and a regional representative on National Labour Students’ Committee. She is also a member of the Co-operative Party, the Fabian society and the think-tank, Progress. Mary is really look forward to helping out South-East Young Labour members over the coming year.



Nick Pringle – North Rep
Nick PNick joined the Labour Party three years ago, aged 15, and went on to become Jarrow CLP’s Youth Officer, as well as an active local campaigner. He was elected to the Labour North Regional Board as Youth Representative and to be the National Youth Officer for LGBT Labour.

Nick is currently studying History at Manchester University where he is involved with Labour Students and is a regional coordinator for Labour Students. He is also a member of the Cooperative Party and Progress. At the 2010 elections Nick campaigned extensively in the North’s key seat, Tynemouth, as well as helping to run a strong campaign for his local council seat. Nick is really passionate about making sure Young Labour is not only a strong campaigning force but that it also offers members opportunities to develop politically as well as socialise and network.


Tobin Webb – South West Rep
Tobin WebbTobin is currently living in Bristol and works as a Constituency Office Manager. Previously Tobin was involved in his Labour Club as a student at the University of Bristol, where he studied Music. Tobin went on to serve two years as President of Bristol Students’ Union, before being elected to the National Executive of NUS as a Labour Students candidate.

He is a passionate campaigner for the environment, social justice and human rights; and is particularly driven to campaign for the equality of opportunity for all, particularly with respect to education. Tobin is a a member of the Co-operative party, the Fabian Society, Progress and Unite the Union. He hopes to bring his skills and experience to the Young Labour team in the year ahead and help win for Labour in the South West and beyond.


Adam White – North West Rep
Adam WhiteAdam is the North West Representative on the National Committee.

A member of Stalybridge and Hyde CLP, the co-operative Party, and Unite, he currently works in the constituency for a Labour MP, and is a founding member of Tameside and Stockport Young Labour’s executive.

He is also a local organiser for anti racism group Hope not Hate, where he has overseen the campaign against the BNP in Tameside since before the 2010 general election.

His main interests in young labour are in improving democracy and participation, involving young Trade Unionists in Party activity, and ensuring young members organise to make a difference in winning key seats.

 


Trade Union Representatives

Young Labour national committee has five trade union positions for young trade unionists to feed into the work of Young Labour, and to strengthen the historic partnership between the Labour party and the trade union movement
 

Michael Wheeler – Trade Union Rep

Micheal WheelerMichael is one of the Trade Union reps on the National Committee. He works for the Trade Union Usdaw and has been involved in the Labour Party since he was old enough to do a leaflet round. He is involved now because he believes that only a Labour Government truly cares about delivering real improvements to working people’s lives.


He wants to help develop closer links between Young Labour and young trade unionists. He wants to make sure that Young Labour represents the interests of all young people across the country whether are working, are a student, or are currently unemployed.

Michael wants to see Young Labour reach out to all young people in the Labour Movement in order to continue to develop as an effective campaigning organisation. 


Kye Dudd – Trade Union Representative 
Kye Kye has been involved with the union since 2005 when he became the Branch Youth Officer. He went on to become the Chair of the Southwest RYC and the Rep in his Unit HR Services Bristol SPC.

Kye is now the Lead ULR and Royal Mail Section Secretary for his Branch Bristol & District Amal. In June he was elected as the new Chair of the YAC.

Kye’s interests include; Football, Poker, Brazilian Music, Politics, Reggae, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds and Surfing.

 

 


Liam Grogan – Trade Union Rep

Liam GroganLiam is one of the Trade Union Representatives on the National Committee. He works for his Local Authority and is active on many levels in his trade union, Unison. He has been involved in the Labour Party for the past few years and his main aim to bring more young people into the Labour movement.

He wants to help develop closer links between Young Labour and young trade unionists. He believes that close working between the unions and Young Labour is what is needed for the future.

His focus is to speak out against cuts, speak up for public housing, speak out against youth unemployment and fight for a fairer society for all.We have access to a whole host of communication methods including social media so lets use them and start the fightback!
 

Additional Members

Adrian Prandle – Chair of the Young Fabians
Adrian PrandleAdrian sits on the Young Labour National Committee as Chair of the Young Fabians and is keen to see Young Labour and the Young Fabians work closely together and for members of each to interact and support each other’s efforts.

The Young Fabians is the under-31 section of the Fabian Society and is the only think tank run by and for young people. It is affiliated to the Labour Party. For more information, or to become a member of the Young Fabians, please see www.youngfabians.org.uk.

Adrian has a broad experience with the Young Fabians – from organising a large delegation to Barack Obama’s presidential campaign in 2008 to coordinating members’ participation in the organisation’s policy development process. He edited the Young Fabians’ 50th anniversary pamphlet, The New Generation. Adrian was brought up in a Labour family and enjoys campaigning, home and abroad. Adrian currently works as an education policy adviser for a trade union.


Olivia Bailey – Labour Students Representative
LivOlivia is the National Chair of Labour students and one of the representatives of the organisation on the Young Labour National Committee. Olivia leads the Labour Students team.

Before becoming Chair of Labour Students Olivia was the full time women's officer at the National Union of Students for two years, and before that studied Modern History and Politics at St Hilda's College, Oxford.

Ross MacRae– Labour Students Rep

Ross is the National Secretary of Labour Students and one of the representatives of the organisation on the Young Labour National Committee.  Ross’ role at Labour Students involves organising events and communications as well as managing Labour Student’s finances. 

Before stating his term at Labour Students Ross studied Politics and Social Policy at Edinburgh University.  Ross was also previously Chair of Scottish Labour Students and a Scottish Young Labour Representative on the Scottish Executive Committee.

 

 

 

Samantha Kennedy - Labour Students Rep

SamSamantha is one of the three Labour Students representatives on Young Labour National Committee. She is Labour Students Campaigns & Membership Officer. In this role Samantha has responsibilty for supporting Labour clubs at Further and Higher Education institutions throughout the country. She also is responsible for liaising with Young Labour to coordinate campaigning activity around local and national elections throughout the year.

Before taking on this role Samantha was Vice-President (Welfare) at the University of Kent Students' Union. She was a postgraduate law student at Kent before that and during her time at Kent was Women's Officer for Kent Labour Students and Canterbury CLP.
